Sgt. Zachary D. Tellier, 31, of Charlotte was a combat infantryman with the 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, at Fort Bragg. He died Sept. 29, 2007 of wounds sustained while on a ground patrol in Afghanistan.

The previous April, Tellier’s unit was conducting a mounted patrol when one of its vehicles drove over and detonated a bomb, which set the vehicle on fire, according to a statement from the 82nd Airborne.

Tellier pulled two paratroopers out of the vehicle to safety, suffering severe burns to his hands. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with valor for his actions.

After he was burned, Tellier jumped up in the turret to return fire, said Sgt. Michael Layton, a member of Tellier’s unit. A lieutenant made Tellier get out of the vehicle because of his injuries, Layton said.

“Zachary Tellier has to be the biggest hero I’ve ever known or heard of, not just because of what he did, but because of his personality,” Layton said. “He came in the Army because he wanted to be around soldiers and serve his country, and he paid the ultimate sacrifice.”

Tellier is survived by his wife, Sara Tellier of Atlanta, Ga.; his father, David W. Tellier of Groton, Mass.; and his mother, Pamela Rodriguez, of Falmouth, Mass.

The workout was first posted by CrossFit DC (Washington D.C., USA) on May 27, 2009. The original post said Zach “basically lived on [Coach] Chris Rutynas’ couch for months at a time. If you noticed Chris pushing even harder than usual [during this WOD], its because he knew what this was about.”

    First group starts with @400 yd run

    Second group starts with 10 pull-ups, (3 strengths of bands and ring available to modify if needed)

    Third group starts with 20 push-ups

    Fourth group starts with 30 squats.

    All groups start at the same time and each group completes the required number of exercises in the set and rotates to the next set when the runners return. 

    Rinse and repeat for 4 rounds

    Walk back to the flags for Mary and recovery

    Basic truth we are learning in our family recently is that God has a proper time of everything and our desire for something doesn’t change His timeline.  It’s not a particularly deep truth, but it has been a good reminder for me this week not to rush things , go with the program and trust the process.

      Everybody loves suicide sprints, so why not do them uphill as well? A walking rest was provided.

DeepDish sprinted up the hill with it.

          Started with 1/20, running across parking lot between exercises. Pax waiting for six at ab station held Cobra pose instead of plank. 

          Due to time, audible was called at 10/11 to convert to regular merkins and big boy situps. We got to 17/4 before two minute warning.

          CIRCLE OF TRUST: 

          A buddy of mine reached out to me recently and told me about how depressed and lonely he is. We talked for a while (and have breakfast plans), but he’s not at all the kind of guy you would expect this out of. Male loneliness is real, even if we’re surrounded by people, and you never know who is struggling. Take a few moments to affirm someone else today, even if it’s just a hand on a shoulder. You never know whose life you may save. 

          And yes, the EH is in process.

                The PAX was informed that we would be going on a date with our very own CMU (some of us chose to giver our date’s names – WuzntMe “Grace Anne”, Rug Doctor “Shirley”.  We took our date to the first lamp post we came to on the Greenway.
                The PAX then moseyed with their CMU out to the 11th lamp post.
                First Round – Merkins 11, 10, 9, 8, etc. for a total of 66 Merkins.
                Moseyed back to the 11th lamp post.
                Second Round – Overhead Press with CMU 11, 10, 9, 8, etc. for a total of 66 Merkins.
                Moseyed back to the 11th lamp post.
                Third Round – Big Boy Sit-ups 11, 10, 9, 8, etc. for a total of 66 Merkins.

                Fourth Round – Dealer’s Choice (Some chose burpees, some squats with CMU, etc.) for a total of 66.
                Ran out of time at the end of the Fourth Round so we didn’t get Mary in but there was plenty of planking waiting on the Six to come in.

                CIRCLE OF TRUST: “It’s about the man next to you, and NO MAN gets left behind.  One of our PAX had been MIA for a few weeks and Sidewinder dropped by his place of employment this past week just to make sure he was ok.  The PAX member had been working long hours and weekends and turned out to be fine, but was humbled that Sidewinder cared enough to go check on him (the PAX member showed up today).  We are our Brother’s keeper and we can all learn a lesson from Sidewinder’s concern.  No man left behind not only applies during a work-out, but it also applies when a Brother goes MIA.  As men we’re awful at letting other’s know when we need each other, don’t hesitate in reaching out to those who we haven’t seen in a while.  You may never know what it will mean to that PAX member.
                BALL OF MAN: Continued prayers for Fastlane’s wife’s Grandmother who has suffered another mini-stroke and as they provide care for her.  Schnitzel’s friend who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer and Transplant’s family member who is also battling cancer.

                Mustang broke up with his girlfriend at the end of the work-out (dropped his CMU and it broke).  There was supposed to be a burpee penalty but he was so heartbroken that the PAX had mercy on him.  WuzntMe was eager to get home to entertain his family members, but I’ll bet he didn’t tell his M about Grace Anne.
