QIC: Prosciutto

AO: Beat Ridge

Conditions

27 degrees… chilly but not impossible; after all, we’re men not petunia’s

The Disclaimer

Hi, I’m Prosciutto and today is the Eleventh of December. What’s that mean? Well, it means you’re here by your choice – I am not a professional and will not force you to perform any of the movements in the next 45 minutes; that is of your own choice. Push yourself, but stop if it hurts or modify if that’s better. Don’t be an idiot – you have other places to be today, tomorrow and the day after that. Remember that. Welcome to F3, let’s go!

Merkin Wave aka “Wheel of Merkin”:
In a well-formed circle, each PAX single-counts in succession until all PAX have completed the round; when the round is complete, the starting position will then increment and go around again… until 11.
– High Plank – 1 round counting to 11 (“Elebun”)
– Merkin Wave – 2 rounds counting to 11 (“Elebun”) – given that we were only 5 today, we opted to repeat the rounds through to 11; not 10.
– Grave Digger (left side) – 1 round counting to 7
– Grave Digger (right side) – 1 round counting to 7
**Q Note-to-self: It is way more fun to count these with a north Georgia (country-boy) accent. The PAX all seemed to agree with their snickering and laughter rather than #midwifeNoises heard during the Grave Diggers**
Mosey over to a wall and PAX complete BTTW (“Balls to the Wall”) while waiting for the other PAX to return from an out-and-back sprint.

YHC is still full of excitement after UGA won the SEC Championship, so YHC decided to incorporate this excitement into the next available Q opportunity.  Our schedule maker, thanks Ohms, allowed this to happen while the win was fresh on everyone’s mind. So, let’s Sic ‘EM!

D.A.W.G.S.

Dora – The PAX was aware that, generally, Dora likes exercises in a progression down the body, so obvious mumblechatter ensued when….. The PAX completed
100 Pull-Ups — 200 Dips — 300 Merkins – Moseying to Facilities & Back
Apache Scout Run
Wave of Merkins – 13’s (13 time SEC Champs)
Gorilla Howlers & Carolina Dry Docks
Smash the PAX & Sweat Angels
YHC felt the theme warranted the involvement of the ole pigskin, thanks Prosciutto for the ALR efforts, so the PAX engaged in a little “Smash the PAX” activities…i.e. those unfortunate enough to find themselves with said pigskin were “smashed”.

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among the ages of 10-24.  3,470 average attempts happen per year within the 9th – 12th grade range, and 4 of 5 of those young people have given clear warning signs.  While the statistics are heart breaking, the positive for us in F3 is this….WE HAVE A CLEAR SIGN THAT WE MUST LEAD.  Let the young people in our communities see us working hard and doing the right things ALL the time. Hold the M’s hand, hold the Shortys’ hands, smile, speak kindly to strangers, stand on the outside of the sidewalk to “protect” your loved ones walking next to you.  Lastly, just BE THE ONE that shows that struggling youth that there is always a better option.

Main Thang:
The Pax partnered up for a little DORA 1-2-3 action. Each group took turns working towards the following goals…
100 Merkins
200 Dips
300 Squats
While one man did the exercise, the other group member box jumped to the top of the stairs near the football field and did 5 Burpees at the top. The rhythm continued until each group completed the goal.
Prosciutto added a little extra credit for the PAX…and it came in the form of us all holding a plank while going around the circle counting. Prosciutto started by saying 1…the next guy would then say 1…then the next, etc until it got back to Prosciutto. He then would say 2…and we kept that rhythm until we got to the number 10.
The fun did not stop there as we took turns doing pushups with the rhythm mentioned above until we got to 10 pushups.
The PAX then headed to the parking lot where we lunged to the first light pole and then Bernie Sanders’ed back to the starting point. We lunged again followed by a karaoke back to the starting line…We did this set one more time.

MOLESKIN
We are currently in the season of Advent. Advent, in latin means coming or arrival. We celebrate Advent by eagerly awaiting the second coming of Jesus. As we watch and wait for His return, let us long for the real substance of this season (and every season) and not the shadows. During the Christmas season, many make it all about the gifts and the food…while those have their place and can be great, they are simply shadows of the real substance that we need and all long for…the real substance is Jesus.
Questions to ponder:
So this season, how can we keep proper perspective amidst the hustle and bustle of this season? How can we pursue Jesus as the treasure that we all need?

Strong: Having the power to move heavy weights
Tough: to withstand adverse conditions
You go to the gym you see a ton of strong guys. Men benching, squating, deadlifting, 2x sometimes 3x their weight. You go to the gloom you see tough HIM. Men that aren’t afraid of getting their hands dirty or the cold weather, rain, or humidity. Anyone can be strong in their own right but to be tough you have to get away from your comfort zone. A gym rat excel in their area bc they have their fancy gloves, belts, and temperature controlled environment, but take that all away can they still hit those PR’s maybe maybe not. That is what separates HIM from a gym rat we all might not be strong but we all are tough as nails. It takes a tough man to workout in freezing conditions, takes a tough man to workout with little sleep, and takes a tough man to wake up early to meet other HIM at 0530 to work out in various conditions. So be glad what you have accomplished every morning just by showing up.

25 Days of Xmas Abs

Twas the night before Xmas and all through the house not a critter was stirring not even the Cows. The gloves and beanies were set out with care, In hopes that Steam Engine’s beating would be fair.
The shorties were nestled all warm in their sacks, while they dreamed of biscuits as their mid morning snacks. M in her pjs looking so cute while YHC sawed logs reclined in his best suit.
When out in the gloom there was some great chatter, YHC sprang from his LAZBOY feeling much fatter. Away to the minivan he revved his great steed, to zoom to the AO to relay a Great Deed.
The moon shone down on the PAX and their flabs, when YHC loudly announced — 25 DAYS OF XMAS ABS!

December 1 marks day one of the 25 Days of Xmas Abs challenge.
This is to be completed OYO — outside of a workout. Its simple, really no excuse can survive. These are to completed as 4 count.

We pick out names of our children with great care and significance. We named our son Stephen after the martyr in Acts because he was described as a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit.
As Christmas approaches, we remember the birth of our Savior Jesus, whom the prophet Isaiah declared in Isaiah 7:14 would be born of a virgin and be called Emmanuel. We read in the NT that the name means “God with us.”
As we  live out our day, let us be encouraged that God is with us and lives in us through the Spirit.

The shovel flag reminds us that as men, we have been given a God-given mandate to work…to move earth. We are called to live in such a way that things (such as our wives, family, church, community, friendships, etc) flourish…We do this by putting aside passivity and by following Jesus in being sacrificial servant leaders…
To summarize what I have learned through walking with Jesus and through F3, it’s this: Men, get your Sh!t together and get you A$$ to work.
I don’t typically use language as this, but sometimes as men, we need to be told exactly how it is.

In Genesis, the Lord speaks of our World’s light and how it came to be.  During mumblechatter, a PAX expressed the idea for “Let there be Light” or Genesis 1:1 as our workout title today.  YHC looked up shortly after and witnessed the absolutely beautiful site that is the morning sun rising and creating the gorgeous mix of colors across the sky.  All this, simply reminds us of the special passage that is Philippians 4:13.  “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength”.  God is blessing the men of F3 by expecting us all to lead by striving for the light in front of us, but with leadership, we are giving difficult situations, trials, and tribulations; however, we MUST always revert back to Philippians, find joy in the opportunity, realize no hill is to high, and we will ALWAYS have UNFAILING strength through Christ.
