BearMerks: Made two points in parking lot with a distance of 25 yards apart. Travel from point A to point B by bear crawling with merkins mixed in. Hold Al Gore waiting on the Six.

  1. Round 1: 4 count Bear crawl then 1 merkin. Repeat till you reach point B.
  2. Round 2: 8 count bear crawl then 2 merkins. Repeat till you reach point A.
  3. Round 3: 12 count bear crawl, then 3 merkins.
  4. Round 4: 16 count bear crawl, then 4 merkins.

5 Minutes of Mary (PAX CHOICE/LEAD) to finish it out.

After the last couple of weeks filled with very tough workouts, my body was not liking this 4th day in a row of waking up at 4:30AM. Decided I needed the long mosey and extra stretching at the start. This easily could have been the easiest workout of the week. But as the wigs say, “If you can’t do it, don’t Q it.”

I mean, my shirt will still soaking wet at the end. So maybe it wasn’t that easy.

    We Went a Runnin

    10 minute timed run for distance. Whistle warning at the 5 minute mark (try to double your distance reached thus far) and whistle warning at the 9 minute mark (finish strong)

    1 minute Interval Running: slow jog 1 minute, quick jog 1 minute, run 1 minute. Rinse and repeat 2 more times. (9 total minutes moving) Goal: to always be moving in at least a jog. If you felt you needed to walk during the slow jog interval, then your quick jog or run interval was too fast. Purpose: many of the PAX are new to running and don’t have any idea what pace to run. This helps determine if your pace is too fast for your endurance level.

    Escobar’s keys to being a better runner:

    1. Ease into running if you are just starting out. Make sure to have rest days in between running days.
    2. Jog to warm up and perform most of the stretching post run.
    3. SHOES- get fitted for proper footwear. THIS IS HUUUUGE! (as The Donald would say.)
    4. Combine running with strength exercises
    5. Diversify your training days: Endurance running, Interval running, and Strength Training
    6. Find a Partner (accountability)
    7. Make short/long term goals (run 10 miles per week, or 20 miles per month). Accomplish the goal and increase the goal.
    8. STRENGTHEN YOUR CORE. Core strength is just as important as leg strength.

      To many times we deal with constant distractions. Our phones and other electronics detract our attention in our daily lives. Multitasking is a myth. It has been proven that focusing on one task at a time is more efficient than focusing on 2 or more tasks simultaneously.

      Consider your body language with being in the moment. When talking to your wife, your kids, friends, coworkers, and even the cashier you should be in the moment. Nothing says “I don’t care about you” more than looking at your phone when someone is talking to you.

Interesting that in this verse 11 Jesus moves from His joy to our joy. If we are connected to him and abide in him (the Word), His joy becomes our joy, and our joy becomes full.

          In the ever-changing points of frustration that is 2020 it is a challenge to be content and happy in every situation and circumstance. Philippians 4:13 is a very familiar passage that says, “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me”, but we often miss the verses before that focus on the “all things” Paul is talking about. When he says, “all things”, though there is a greater implication, he is also focusing on his ability to be content/happy if times are good or even when times are very bad. How does he do keep cool when things suck? …He says that his relationship with Jesus Christ is the “secret of his contentment”. When your circumstances rise above your ability to remain content/happy, remember you can do “all things” through Christ who will strengthen you, even being content/happy in the midst of crazy.

            PAX moseyed to the field of battle on the other side of the duck pond. Approximately .4 mile.


            The Thang

            Paschendale- Iron Maiden (8:28)

            Lined up in a circle. Divided into 2 teams. While in the circle, explain the activity:
            – WW1 Campaign that began 103 years ago around this time of year. On July 31st, 1917, at 0355 hours, English troops began their attack on German positions in Flanders Fields, with the goal of pushing the Germans back passed the Paschendale area. Trench warfare, staying low to the ground, and teamwork were paramount to success on this flat terrain.

            Today, we memorialized Paschendale.

            Mark off 15 yards from the center.

            One side are the Germans and the other side are the Allies.

            All PAX, regardless of team, will pair up with a member of his team. When the song starts, 1 PAX from each pair will do burpees, while the other PAX army crawls to a center landmark, reverses and crawl-bears back to his side of the line. The pairs then switch and continued the pattern until the song ended. Is it still playing?

            The team with the most burpees (230ish?) won.

            In 8 minutes, the cumulative burpee total was more than 400.

            PAX moseyed to another field for more fun. (.25 miles)

            PAX secured coupons from the dispensary

            The grandmother did this during COVID, and I really found it quite touching that despite everything going on, she still found a way to do something on her bucket list. Encouraged the PAX to do something on their bucket list during this time.

            I recently got a golf lesson where we spent half of it talking the mental side of the game. A pre shot routine is key to keep the bad thoughts from creeping in. The instructor shared that Tiger Woods was timed during the 2000 US Open (he won by 15 and was the only player under par) repeating his routine down to the second on every shot. Sure, this will help any golfer but it applies to life as well. When we steer off of our routine it allows bad habits to creep in.
