    October 25, 1415, King Henry V and his army defeated the French in the Battle of Agincourt during the Hundred Years War. We ran a Monty Python and the Holy Grail themed workout to commemorate this date.

    The Thang

    Thang 1, Coconut Mosey/Inclined Bear Crawls/Burpees/Lunges

    Mosey 200 yards using coconuts to make galloping rhythm to travel as merry HIMs to sneak up on our swift lagomorph adversary. 1 x HIM Bear Crawled up the Hill for recon on the killer rabbit, the other 2 x HIM provided “cover” by doing Burpees awaiting safe return of the recon HIM. Each HIM got 2 x uphill BearCrawls with the other two providing cover by doing burpees on set 1 and lunges on set 2. Mosey 200 yards to starting point using coconuts. Picked up our blocks.

    Thang 2, Murder Bunny/Rifle Carry/Archer Mercans

    Launched out as a 3-ship of HIMs armed with our blocks to rain hate on some lagomorphs. Murder bunnied out 40 yards as a 3-ship, returned to start via Rifle Carry. Ended each set with 3 x hard count Archer Mercans. Our HIM 3-ship executed 3 and only 3, nay 2 nor 4 – we were allowed to counteth only to 3 sets for Thang 2.

    Thang 3, European Swallow vs African Swallow and a Coconut

    2 x 25 reps of ALPOs (block simulated our coconut) to scientifically prove that a European swallow could indeed migrate with a coconut from a tropical to temperate climate. Case closed.

    Thang 4, Pass the Black Knight via Flutter Kicks & Lunges.

    We 3 HIM felt since in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, halfway through their fight, the Black Knight wound up with no arms we would finish our exercise using legs only.

    5 x sets of 30 flutter kicks and a 40 yard walking lunge to ensure we also felt as if we had no legs. Last minute remaining we did flutter kicks until the end.

    Don’t wait to have those intimate conversations with the people close to you. Inspired by a podcast on the drive to Anvil – podcast was about doing a life review. Big message from the podcast is to have those intimate conversations now, especially if your mom and/or dad other important folks in your life are still around.

    As we moseyed during Thang 1, we assessed our deadly adversary. Threw out comments such as, “Look that rabbit’s got a vicious streak a mile wide.” and “He’s got huge, sharp…eh” and “He can leap about…eh”. We dismounted after a 200 yard journey. The hill was steep and unnecessary extra work, therefore it was a required aspect to our workout. So we ran recce/cover tactics – fortunately all 3 merry HIM returned from their reconnaissance missions fully intact.

    3-ship’d out on our Murder Bunnies, slaying those lagomorphs in a manner that would have left King Henry V clapping like a seal after the Battle of Agincourt. We collectively discovered Archer Mercans work better with wide-grip – who knew?

    Next @f3threeskin, @remcmillan & @f3choochoo got into an argument regarding European & African swallows gripping coconut husks while in their traditional migratory patterns. Since only European swallows migrate we decided to prove that European swallows can definitely migrate with a heavy coconut from a tropical environment to a temperate environment.

    I shared the following COT with the Parliament boys on Friday. With no repeaters, I thought it worth sharing again with the Anvil boys.

    Clothespin posted something in Slack about 2020 basically encouraging us to focus on the positives of 2020 and mentioned some of the wonderful things he got to do like spending time with his family.

    Oftentimes we don’t brag on people who speak of the positives, but we see plenty of advice pointing toward the woes of complaining, and rightfully so, complaining can become very toxic in so many ways.

    As I pondered this thought, I realized that, much like the old adage of praying for patience and receiving things to be patient about, complaining or over complaining will lead us down a path in which we see things in our lives to complain about.

    In 2020, My M and I did not have Covid, we did not lose anyone close to us due to Covid, we spent many hours with each other that normally would not happen, we still got paid and kept our jobs despite schools being closed, we did not experience any real hardships medically, my wife received a major surgery that even without insurance we were able to pay for, the M found FiA and is now a very integral part of their foundation and growth.  

    Sadly, we tended to jump on the 2020 Sucks bandwagon, and now 2021 has offered up plenty of things in which to complain simply because they have been much more personal than those causing that overall attitude of 2020 sucks.  

    Misery loves company, so I would love to start airing the grievances that have already come with 2021 whether it be emotional, physical, spiritual, psychological, or occupational, but I think I will take a lesson from 2020 and focus on the positive.

    My 2.1 turned 2, and one week later stole the show at my sister’s wedding reception.

    Oh yeah there is another, my baby sister got married and found an amazing man who is Christ focused.

    During financial struggles, we have made it through just fine and even enjoyed an occasional indulgence. Of course, much of this comes as a direct result of the wonderful F3 and FiA relationships in which we’ve been blessed.

    Relationships with couples our age have developed and/or blossomed 

    My 2.0 is excelling at school and gets better each day at his various athletic endeavors.

    He loves harder and deeper and prays with more soul and love than most grown men I know.

    My M is healthy, beautiful, works extremely hard, loves with more of herself than she really has to offer. My M takes 2nd place only to God as the driving force to keep me going and help guide my ship. 

    Having gifts in our lives in which we would happily sacrifice so many things to enrich those gives leaves us asking what is it that we really have to complain about, or at least, in my humble opinion, it should

          99% Leg Day at Anvil. Man, things sure look good on paper. Then, those things take so much longer than one would expect.

          Anvil generally sees much smaller numbers than today’s count. Consistently, however, those numbers almost always include Threeskin and Fissure.
          On the New Year’s Day Converegence, Threeskin gave a great COT that led me to start looking for inspiration in my life as well as for my next COT. Many things crossed my mind, but I kept coming back to the two guys that seem to always be at Anvil. I wanted to give this riveting COT to inspire guys, but I settled on the COT that was planned for me, Threeskin, and Fissure. A more personal COT. A COT geared direct “at” those two guys especially Fizz.
          It went a little something like this: Fissue and I have had a crazy history in the few years we have known each other. Daily talks that come with a close friendship all the way to a very significant falling out. Either way, he and I have gone through some F3 and life “crap” together. Well, in preparation for the COT, I thought about those consistent Anvillians. I realized that, whether I liked it or not and, for the longest, despite my reaction, they provided unbridled feedback with utmost of intent of trying to make me better.
          It takes someone special to keep coming back and helping someone that seems to indicate zero desire for said help, but Threeskin and Fissure did for the longest time especially Fissure. He deserved to know I still recognize this. He deserved to have it said, out loud, to other Pax whether they already knew it or not.
          YHC did add this: as the new year begins you often here of people developing their “one word”. Often times, the ones that get all the love are those expected and common words: “commit”, “work”, “effort”, perservere”, but what about a less common one, I don’t know, say….”not”.
          That’s right, “not”…as YHC goes into the new year, that’s the “one word”. Not going to stop loving. Not going to stop giving grace. Not going to be impatient. Not going to close off to feedback. Not going to stop trying to develop more self awareness. Not going to strive to be better. Not going to quit on those who depend on me.
          “What about ya’ll? Do you have one word that strives to do the same things?”
