With it being fall break we talked about taking this time to reset, reflect, and rejuvenate.  In addition the recent events over with our brothers at Cape Fear, Mayhem mentioned the Henry David Thoreau quote of “Most men lead lives of quiet desperation…” and spoke of the fellowship F3 can have on an individual.  Know that you have a support group of men who are here for you.  Please lean on that!

    Jazzy Jag couldn’t take the Q, so YHC did a little improv on the day. Escobar and John Doe were with us in spirit through their routine contributions, though Escobar honked at us from his car on Apison Pike… while we were doing the ChowYunFat. Later I called him to let him know they cursed his name while we were doing his routine, and his response, “Huh. That sucks. I was in an air conditioned car, sipping coffee.”  Oi.

    We went to areas of the park we’ve never been to before. As a result, Bernie couldn’t find us – he was a few minutes late.

        Crisp cool Fall weather of 57 degrees.  Probably coolest temp for Hacksaw to date.

        Moseyed via Greeway to parking lot next to the Collegedale Police Station.

        The Thang

        Moseyed down Swinyar Drive to Four Corners Pl and took a right towards the hill.

        Arrived at the bottom of hill and created groups of 3 men.

        1st Round: Man 1 did Bernie up hill, while Man 2 did Carolina drydocks, and Man 3 did squats.  Once Man 1 reached near the top of hill, he called to Man 2 to start the Bernie.  Man 3 started Carolina drydocks, and Man 1 started squats.  When Man 2 reached top of hill, Man 3 started Bernie up hill, Man 2 did squats, and Man 1 did Carolina drydocks.

        Top of Hill: 3 minute core routine consisting 45 seconds each of leg lift, plank step through, alternating single leg V-ups, and hammers.  Moseyed back down hill.

        2nd Round:  Same format as 1st round.  Man 1 started with bunny hop up hill, while Man 2 did burpees, and Man 3 did Al Gore.  Rotate in same order once you reach near top of hill.

        Top of Hill Round 2: same core work as before but only 30 seconds each.  Moseyed down hill.

        3rd Round:  Same format again.  Man 1 did a bear crawl up hill, while Man 2 did reverse lunges, and Man 3 did merkins.  Again, rotate in same order once a man reached near the top of hill.

        Out of time so we moseyed back to parking lot.

        Note: starting and stopping points at bottom and top of hill were large drains on the edge of street.  Google maps measures them to be 300 feet apart.

        The hill is a long mosey (about a half mile if you cross over Apison pike) from parking lot staring point.  Long trek but worth it to do occasionally.

                Counted off into groups of 4.  Moseyed around the square and showed each of the 4 stations and went over the scoresheet.  Each team of 4 would have one man at each station to perform the exercise for a 2 minute period.  At the end of 2 minutes Q blows the whistle and the pax mark their total performed on the scoresheet and jailbreak/mosey to the next station.  Each team works through until they complete all 4 rounds at all 4 stations.

                In honor of the Hacksaw and the missing flag, we decided (I decided) to do “just one more” and knocked out 5 burpees.

                It was a bit like herding cats. 


                However, that was mostly my fault.  We adapted and overcame with slightly shorter times for the workout stations.  Arithmetic, even simple adding of numbers greater than 10 on a piece of paper, seems challenging at 5:30 am.

                There was a real lack of participation in my short shorts, tank tops, sweatbands and the like.  I blame Candu, Care Bear and Best in Show for not showing up – fortunately I found at least two of them hanging out down on the pier:
