CIRCLE OF TRUST: F3 has been a very consistent and positive part of my life since I started posting back in December. I’m a better husband, father, and man of God. I’ve made some strong friendships, and I’ve also gotten in the best shape of my life. We talk a lot about bringing FNGs and including new people, but have we named and thanked the man who invited us and put us in the EH in the first place? PAX went around the circle and said who brought them, so as to better know each man’s story. Props for Whittler and Back Pew who found F3 on their own.

BALL OF MAN: Laces Out led us out. Thanks were said for the day, and the week that is, and any and all travel we may take for the holiday weekend.

Moleskin

Let’s go ahead and get it out of the way; Yes…. the FNG merlot splashed (only at the very end though!).

FNG’s last name is Rogers. His FNG story went in this order:
1) Name given
2) Grew up in Alabama; Sand Mountain
3) actually went to U of Alabama and graduated. Color me surprised
4) Electrical engineer doing electrical things for work which include electricity
5) Is Saved; (note – no snakes mentioned in the story)
6) Might(?) be related to Mr. Rogers, the famous TV show host
**Immediately after the story, fellow Roll Tide alum (Ringwald) noted the order sequence in which we were given the specifics of his story; suggested this underscores the importance to an Alabama native. To which, Laces Out replies, “Sometimes ya gotta hit rock bottom before you get saved.” nailed it

– Anything Bulgarian = Candu’s sweet-spot corner pocket

– Landslide and Skitch are really fast. REALLY fast.

– While it was completely warranted – not a single 10 count happened

News

Bikini Challenge is still going strong. Several guys are still in the hunt. Looks like it’ll be a 2 or 3 horse race to the finish. Aye! Keep it up guys!

– Easter this weekend
– Kickball on Saturday morning. HC now if you haven’t so that Ringwald can get the numbers figured out. Apparently it’s important.
– Burpees at the Battery for DeepDish’s Q on Saturday if kickball isn’t your thing.

Fireman carry for about 20 yards with your partner, then switch partners. Group jog to the stairs at the ice cream show.

One partner will do 9 incline pushups while the other does 9 squats. They will then switch. Once done, they go down that set of stairs and repeat but doing 8 each this time. Repeat until down all the stairs while decreasing the count every set.

Reverse bear crawl down the big hill.

With your partner, mosey across the market street bridge doing one burpee every other light pole. Stick together. When you hit the building structure in the middle you will walk to the end of it then resume the burpee pattern once cleared. I will send people off in their partner pairs one at a time to start out. Meet at the corner and then mosey back to the Rhino.

In the movie Into The Wild, Chris McCandless writes down a note in a journal that says “happiness only real when shared”. This quote has stuck with me for years ever since I saw the movie. To me, saying that happiness is only real when shared emphasizes our basic human need for connection. With connection comes so much abundance. The best times of my life were when I was truly connected to someone and we experienced something together. These are times that I now have the ability to look back and reminisce over.

I want to leave you all with a challenge. Put it on your mind today and ask yourself why you came to F3 this morning. Did you want to connect with others? DID you connect with others? And does it bring you joy to share this workout with others?

During the reverse bearcrawls, Skitch skitched onto a car and rode back to the Rhino so he wouldn’t have to do the burpees.

Plutarch: An Alexander wept for there were no more worlds left to conquer.
By his late 20s, Alexander had conquered the entire known and civilized world. This quote proves that men need to things that are difficult, and absent those difficulties, we lose purpose.

It’s easy to get stuck in a rut, where you have no worlds to conquer. It’s easy to settle for less, and do less with more. But this is how men get lost, angry, bitter, and resentful. When we stretch ourselves, we should feel uncomfortable. We should feel nervous. If you’re not a little scared, you’re not pushing yourself hard enough. If there isn’t legitimate fear of failure, you’re not trying hard enough.

And if you fail? Good. Good. More opportunity to train, to push yourself. Unlike Alexander, you’ve found a worthy adversary, and conquering it will feel that much better.

Work v. Toil. Parallel to Jack v. Sisyphus challenge — work rules are not always fair and work is often full of toil. However, we were created to work and work is good. Genesis 3:18: “…thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field.” Tim Keller in his book, Every Good Endeavor points out: “Thorns & food. Work will still bear some fruit, though it will always fall short of its promise. Work will be both frustrating and fulfilling, and sometimes — just often enough — human work gives us a glimpse of the beauty and genius that might have been the routine characteristic of all our work, and what, by the grace of God, it will be again in the new heavens and new earth…” J.R.R. Tolkien (famous for penning Lord of the Rings) also wrote a much shorter book called Leaf by Niggle which talks about a painter who wanted to paint trees but only paints a few leaves. After he dies his full work of art is revealed to him and others… Keller: “Our deepest aspirations in work will come to complete fruition in God’s future…people will…taste the fruit of the project you are working on right now.” We do not always see the fruit of our labors but we can be “ok” with the toil, be faithful, joyful, and content with our work and trust God for the fruit.

BOM – continued prayers for those said, led by Care Bear.

            Moleskin

Some members of Team Jack felt the “thorns” of toil literally while locating water sources and received some badges of honor. Discussion of the correct form of holding Al Gore and whether it required hugging a tree or not and whether multitasking and inventing the internet counted or not. Everyone loves lunges. This was Skitch’s VQ.

                Focused on replication
Many of us walk through our day and just trying to make it. We keep our heads down and we knock it out. Even though we are “productive” we aren’t interacting on a deep level with our community. So like today’s Q was structured we started out as a large group- got into pairs- then found another pair- and finished as one unit with circle o Roma. It is critical to our success as a human race to interact.
This is where we thrive and grow. F3 or any organization can’t grow if its members don’t reach out to their sphere of influence. When we make the effort to reach out (like with the stairs) we find community and once that relationship is built you bring more in (like we to on our hill climbs). Along the way we are encouraging and uplifting our brothers. We can’t make it on our own sometimes we have to stop mid-way and let our community take up the slack. I.e. injury or just plain exhausted. As a group we conquered the hill climbs with enthusiasm and care for each other and the beauty is found upon completion when we can all share in the glory and fulfillment or knowing we did it together. We made what seemed irrational (wheel barrel up this mount) at the beginning possible. That’s what replication is all about. Expand your conversations… go up to that person at work who seems down or talk to the cleaning person. One of the most valuable lessons I learned in College was not study hard… make the grade… graduate… IT WAS the final exam question of my capstone class. What’s the name of the lady that cleans our room right before class? It was worth half our final grade. To my surprise as many of you know I’m a talker and I knew her name, I knew how long she worked at the school, knew about her grand kids, her kids, and even her late husband. I was one of only 3 people in class to pass the course and the only person to know her name. Why is this important… Because everyone’s life matters and sharing a conversation can make someone’s day.

                Moleskin

On personal note It’s my 32nd birthday and first Q. F3 has been exactly what I describe. Last year I went through a divorce and all that comes with that… and you guys were there, you supported me loved on me and when I’d miss a day someone would always reach out. The reason I am here is because Free Candy and VSquared invited me when I was at our men’s group. So, for me this group is life-giving and I had to pass it on to several of my friends including my dad Iron Butt (respect, respect) 62 years old who has also been that encouragement and has even given out my number so I could receive 8-10 individual texts just checking on me.
If you have read this to the end thank you for your support! See you in the gloom!!!

                Focus on the positive.

Most of us have a natural inclination to focus on others’ criticism of us, rather than their praise. Criticism has more impact than praise. It hits harder, digs deeper, and lasts longer in our minds and hearts.

However, we can overcome this inclination by conditioning ourselves to take praise more personally than criticism. The next time someone compliments you or your work, don’t downplay or shrug off what they say; let it sink in. Believe what they say and express your appreciation to them for acknowledging your awesomeness. Challenge yourself to simply say “Thank you!” whenever you receive praise.

Inversely, when someone criticizes you, either view it as an extension of that person’s own insecurity (if given maliciously) or acknowledge it and view it as an opportunity for potential improvement (if given constructively).

This workout featured the return of Wort. After an extended absence, he still kicked ass even if he needed a few extra breathers. Running between bases was our rest, which Hobo certainly appreciated during his 10-count.

                CIRCLE OF TRUST: Counterama, Namerama,
YHC shared that today his father was having a heart cath and asked for prayer. Because of my dad’s heart condition I have been excercising to stay healthy. Appreciate the accountability that F3 has provided over the last 2+ years. We pushed ourselves today and endured much. Sometimes we face times of endurances and difficulty in life. James 1:12 says “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has sttod the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”

BALL OF MAN: Prayer in a circle to end the morning!
