The Thang

Did a lap around the parking lot; in each corner, PAX did 25x Flutter Kicks, Incline Merkins, Monkey Humpers & Imperial Walkers OYO. Moseyed along length of the parking lot, did lunges across short ends.

PAX then circled up for a bit of Name-O-Rama, but with a twist. Q presented an alphabet with exercises associated with each letter. One member of the PAX took charge as Q and called cadence for letters of their name. Sadly, PAX only got through a few names. FNG was the best as everyone enjoyed their burpees!

Spoke about the Murph that Q and several members of our PAX completed on Monday. Q had gone into the event wondering how he would fare physically, worrying about the 100 burpees & 200 merkins. Instead, he came out of it grateful to be part of the F3 Chattanooga community. The camaraderie is something that often goes unspoken about, however to this Q it is the lifeblood of F3.

It was wonderful to see so many men supporting one another, and many men going back for their fellow PAX during the Murph even having completed it themselves. Q encouraged the PAX of Lion’s Den to continue supporting one another through each workout and outside of the F3 setting as well.

When the Q arrived, all the lights around the parking lot were off. That made Q a little nervous with the main part of the workout relying upon information on a sheet of paper that PAX needed to read. Thankfully the lights automatically turned on just a few minutes before the start of the workout.

      At bottom of hill and with coupon each PAX does the following:

      Round 1:

      Curls – 25 / Squat – 25 / Tricep Ext – 25 / Lunge – 25 = 100 Reps / Run up hill to third street light (about 50 Yards), Mosey back down. Rinse and Repeat X 4. Total of 400 Reps.

      While waiting on 6 to complete – Take 1 Min Rest and then do 5 Burpees / rest 20 sec / 5 Burpees. Rinse and Repeat until 6 is in.

      Round 2:

      Merkins – 25 / LBC’s – 25 / Werkin and/or Diamond Merkin – 25 / American Hammer – 25 = 100 Reps / Run up hill to third street light (about 50 Yards), Mosey back down. Rinse and Repeat x 4. Total of 400 Reps.

      While waiting on 6 to complete or time runs out – Take 1 Min Rest and then do 5 Burpees / rest 20 sec / 5 Burpees. Rinse and Repeat until 6 is in or time expires.

      800 Reps + 1,032 total Burpees / 13 = 80 Avg per pax.

        Prosciutto has a great recommendation for routines like this: get a number in your head, get to that number, and rest (only for a sec.), and I recommend the same in this situation with the goal that each Pax completes ~50-60 reps. Please also remember you choose how hard you push yourself, BUT there is another Pax repping it out at Startex.

        I had to share with the Pax who, how, and where this ALARMS workout came from. Thanks Pro.

        Additional items YHC recognized post workout: the Pax truly helped each other. Somehow, in spite of me, explaining ALARMS all at once with Burrito “helping” me, the Pax stayed on the right exercises and pushed themselves. Great Job men!

        YHC had to read the COT prepared simply due to the emotional nature on it. It goes as follows:

        I missed some time, not a lot, but plenty enough.  I took time away to adjust some things and improve my character.  I left to fix some things and even blamed F3 (or men in it).
        Here is the fact of the matter: I got butthurt. I hit a tailspin. I was headed into a darkness. So, what fixed it and why am I here leading today?
        People often say “God will never give you something you cannot handle”, BUT I completely disagree.  Yes, you heard that right. I disagree.
        BECAUSE, the devil will give you plenty of things you cannot handle, BUT you will never get something that GOD can’t handle.  Let Go. Want to lead? Learn to relinquish control. Learn to fail and learn. Learn to learn. Learn to love. Learn to love yourself, your family, your friends, your enemies (it’s called forgiveness), BUT most of all GOD. 

        P.S. — Let this be my first effort to make amends with the men of F3 who placed but lost trust in me or know me as only a Slack icon.

          Just over 1 year ago I was continuing the EH and got F3 Moneyball out in the Gloom. It was my first Saturday Q at the landfill…. I got the PAX strung out to a record proportion (never pick up the 6 as the Q) To see the growth of leaders that have been impacted by Moneyball record EHing is truly amazing. If you need an AO anywhere Moneyball has 5 friends there and we can launch this Saturday. We met through the Chamber of commerce and Craig is a champion of getting to know you. F3 helps him and myself get our connection for the day out of the way. We share a passion to interact with friends and learn from others and build relationships with new friends.

          Today was the first post that I got to lead with one of my close friends. Known in the early morning Gloom as Chief. I called out the runners for being slow and to catch up to me (the slow rucker). I turned around and chief had turned it on, and was on my heels in milliseconds. From our last fellowship together we gained the Universal knowledge to the guide in ANY situation, while at cigar mans fine local establishment. IF EVER in unknown territory just ask yourself, What would Cigar Man Do?

          Burrito is renamed donkey show until he changes his name in slack.

          Mr. Clean was missed, he is on Q here friday, watch out for the ditch!

          Coffiteria was awesome with Back Pew. This talented man gets to show people the holy land for the first time and loves seeing their reactions. Literally trips to Jerusalem. We started forming a plan to take a group of us on a low budget trip that will involve rucking. Here is a map for our route

              Just finished reading Freed to Lead – mentioned how the book talks of everyone has a dolphin and a daffodil with my interpretation being everyone has a specific and unique talent (dolphin) and a specific and unique passion (daffodil). And that we are individually created with a Divine Design. When that talent intersect with that passion then we know where our Divine Design lays, and to chase and embrace it. I’m still searching but getting closer every day. Challenged the PAX to find a starting point to seek their own Divine Design, and to start with asking those close to them (friends, family, spouses) if they were to describe you in one word, what would it be? You will find commonalities and that may very well be the staring point to where you were meant to go.

                I spent more than half of my life seeking stuff, wanting stuff, buying stuff, all trying to fill a God shaped hole.                   Hearts = Merkins; Diamonds = Dive Bombers; Spades = Air Squats; Clubs = Standing Lunges (each leg); Jokers = Minute Plank

                  Began with the entire stack of 54 cards (including Jokers), and pulled randomly. Each suite was represented by an exercise and the number pulled was the number of reps done. All “numbers” should be fairly obvious with the exception of face cards.

                  Jacks = 11; Queens = 12; Kings = 13; Aces = 15

                  Continued the theme from Smackdown last week. “Contribution vs Capacity”. We each have varying levels of capacity and we each have various means to contribute. The challenge (especially as we work towards the ThirdF and giving) is to contribute closer to our capacity. To stretch ourselves when we give (whether monetarily, physically, emotionally, spiritually, with family/friends, etc.). I believe as we stretch ourselves in contribution and grow closer to our capacity then our capacity will also grow, giving us more room to contribute even greater.


                  Moleskin

                  Wow there’s so much that can be thrown out here, but I’ll keep it short. Burrito grunts ALOT, and LOUD. Not sure if it was some sort of mating call to “peacock” his man crush (Whittler) or if the workout was just that enjoyable. Fissure still wears that same white wig – looks good on him though.

                  Did I mention I love hills?
                  Facing the mighty hill we first cranked out 40 merkins then back down and did 15 more for good measure.
                  11’s
                  Run to 8th light for 10 HALF burpees (promised Burrito there would be no burpees. Not that he cares because he’s a man and loves doing hard things. Anyway, half burpees aren’t burpees so I’m not a liar), then back to start for 1 merkin. Half burp reps decrease as the merkin reps increase always adding up to eleven with the uphill and down in between. You know the drill. We started on your own but came together toward the middle of the THANG and shortened the running distance then increased it as we neared the finish line. SO MUCH FUN RUNNING UP AND DOWN HILLS.

                  No, really. I love hills.

                  We made it back to the track parking lot with enough time for Burrito to close us out with 25 SSH in cadence. He’s gonna crush it at his VQ Tuesday at Smackdown. You should come.

                  We chatted briefly about that daily effort to get our bodies in better physical shape. If you’re currently enjoying the gloom a couple days a week then consider upping it to 3 or 4. Challenge a buddy to x number of merkins every night, etc. ” the HIM (having turned Pro) is focused on gradually but consistently Accelerating his fitness level rather than merely staying in shape. Staying in shape is what Amateurs try to do. “

                  It was WET today. Thankfully, it wasn’t cold out there but I imagine we all had to try a little extra to depart the fartsack.

                  Burrito is featured a lot in this backblast but how can he not? The man kept us on our toes throughout the workout and even took his shorts off at one point.

                  Ringwald graced us with his presence. It only took me typing “Roll Tide” in the Lions den slack channel to make it happen. I’m sure he was still coming so I’m really just a sucker. GO TIGERS.
