50-ish degrees, cool, brisk, slight rain the entire morning

Quick mosey around the dog park. Found a covered area to get some protection from the rain. Quick warm-up consisting of: SSH, arm circles, forward folds, imperial walkers, and 3rd grade exercise.


The Thang

The PAX performed a round of Tabata based exercises (30 seconds of exercise, 10 seconds of rest). Exercise included:

SSH, Al gore, dips, incline pickle pointers, imperial walkers, step ups, decline merkins, leg lifts, high knees, lunges, shoulder touches, and slide planks.

The PAX took a 10 count rest, follow by performing step-ups during the AC/DC song “Thunderstruck” and a deep air squat every time “thunder” was sung.

The PAX performed another round of Tabata based exercises (30 seconds of exercise, 10 seconds of rest). Exercise included:

Merkins, flutter kicks, air squats, dive bombers, freddie mercury, lunges, shoulder touches, windmills, reverse lunge, high plank, little baby crunches, and smurf jacks.

The PAX took a 10 count rest, follow by performing flutter kicks, hello dollys, and freddie mercurys during the Michael Jackson song “Beat It” and a big boy sit up every time “beat it” was sung.

The PAX performed a round of “bring Sally up”.

With just a few minutes left, the PAX performed a round of Mary.

The QIC discussed the need for men to be steadfast (regardless of the stresses of every day life).

QIC selected the pavilion that had no light and was under video surveillance. Someone probably got a good laugh at the incline pickle pointers.

    We remembered the civilian casualties, and did reps to honor those who lost their lives trying to help them

    343m run – for the FDNY

    37 pace bear crawl – for the PAPD

    23 merkins – for the NYPD

    8 burpees – for the emergency medical technicians

    1 man maker (blockee) – for the sole patrolman

    *3 rounds of the above were completed, with leading PAX picking up the six and assisting with additional reps

    Next, we recognized the 110 flights of stairs that were climbed by the firefighters (FDNY)

    There are bleachers on both sides of the 400m track, and they were incorporated in a lap as follows:

    30 LBC’s at the base of the first set of bleachers, PAX ran up the stairs to the top of the bleachers, across the top, and back down the other side, ending with 25 merkins. Continue on the track to the other side of the football field, and repeat 30 LBC’s and 25 merkins on the starting and finishing ends of the bleacher run. Finish the lap. 30+25+30+25=110

    QIC shared with PAX his memory of discovering that we were under attack on 9/11/01. Where I was, and who I was with. We all have a story, and will never forget the feeling in our guts at that moment. Today brings that feeling back like it was yesterday. An act of hate did an immense amount of damage 19 years ago. With the devastation and mourning of the lives lost, also came concern about the future of our country, our safety, and our economy. With time, determination, fellow man coming together, and Lord Jesus, we were able to rebuild our economy and take down the leader responsible for the attack. Life is unpredictable and we can only do our best at dealing with tragedy… and we learn how along the way. Today, our country deals with a new challenge with the Covid pandemic as well as internal hatred occurring in our own country amongst each other. Although we will never forget… this too can be recovered from. Our God is at work, and we must do our part to eliminate hate and come together as a nation in order to make ANY progress. It was an honor to lead today, in honoring and remembering those lives lost on 9/11/01. Continuous prayers for their family members who mourn those lives of their loved ones.

    Merlot was splashed by our FNG – Bonsai. I continued Q’ing the beatdown as fellow PAX made sure he was ok. Once empty… Bonsai continued, and finished the remaining 15 minutes. Brining in his six, I explained our lovely term of splashing merlot, as well as our ideal of picking up the six. Encouraged him that we all get better here and we do it together. He will be back

    After we prayed, some PAX shared stories of where they were when they found out about the horror on this day in 2001. Crawdaddy had something really cool to share, y’all should ask him about it sometime

    The Twin Towers were rebuilt with coupons, and stood behind us for a glorious team photo in the gloom post beatdown

        At the top of Mt. Evil our AOQ was presented with a token of appreciation.  An antique CMU with three webs and extra thick walls.

        Still enjoying the drill sergeant’s lovely voice.

          Once the Pax were warmed up, we started some jukebox exercises:

          Song 1 – Roxanne – The Police – The Pax performed Balboas on the curb during the song and a burpee every time “Roxanne” was sung.

          The PAX mosed down the hill to the flags for Song 2.

          Song 2 – Black Betty – Ram Jam – The Pax performed Flutter Kicks during the song and a Big Boy Sit-up every time “Black Betty” was sung (should have used “Bam-ba-Lam”).

          The PAX mosed around the trail to the pavilion for Song 3.

          Song 3 – Best of You – Foo Fighters – The Pax performed Step-ups on the picnic tables during the song and a Air Squat every time “Best” was sung.

          The PAX mosed back to the flags for Song 4.

          Song 4 – Yeah – Joe Nichols – The PAX held high plank during the song and performed a Mountain Climber each time “She” was sung and a Plank Jack each time “Yeah” was sung.

          The PAX ran one last lap round the dog park and finished with 6 minutes of Mary, PAX led.

            Pax get on their very own baseline (6 in total) and the 7th PAX gets by one of the end nets. One PAX is in the dream station and calls out their dreamiest core exercise and a rep count. We all perform the reps, then run a lap moving one station further than where we were. Eventually everybody gets a shot at the dream station.

            We did some LBCs, some dying cockroaches, some pickle pointers, some Spartan sit ups, etc etc. Most in 30 rep counts

                • Each PAX takes a pole
                • Person at pole 1 performs exercise written on sidewalk then moves to next pole
                • At next pole, person 1 tells person 2 what the exercise is and performs it with them 
                • Person 1 runs around the entire loop and stops at pole 2.
                • Person 2 moves to pole 3 and tells person 3 what the exercise is and performs it with them before running around the loop 
                • When someone runs the loops and stops at pole 1 they start a new set of exercised written on sidewalk

                    QIC talked about comfort, fear and peace. Especially how it resignates in throughout in our current state with COVID-19.                     What can I say? The men of The Battery have a special place in the QIC’s heart. The fact that they went to drastic measures to make signs and cheer me on for a welcome back Q just warms my heart and brings a tear to my eye. You should’ve seen the commitment. Highly recommend touring this AO. The Mania and Fandamonium is strong!
