The Thang


BURPEE’s AND COUPONS
6 Stations on one side of field w/Coupons, and 6 Stations directly across field at about 30 Yards (Burpee Stations). PAX pair up and line up across from each other. First Partner does 20 reps of exercise while partner does AMRAP Burpees. Flip Flop 3 times. Rotate to next station Rinse and Repeat. Station 1 – Squats – Station 2 – Overhead Press – Station 3 – Lunges – Station 4 – Curls – Station 5 – Tricep Extensions – Station 6 – Flutter Kicks w/ruck extended above. At the end of the exercises Burpee’s were counted up. In all 420 was best guess.

The object was keep to keep count of the Burpee’s. The lesson is that leaders have to be diligent in keeping their eyes on the “Details” . In leadership those in charge must not allow distractions to obstruct the team from achieving the goal. As you throw different obstacles and distractions into the mix (adding a station, moving between station to station, etc.) Individuals lost counts along the way thus we had to rationally take a good educated guess. Just a simple example what happens when your not focused on the details.

    Mosey to parking lot in front of soccer fields along the road.
    Dominos
    All Pax line up shoulder to shoulder with plank on parking lot curb facing soccer fields. All transition to hold left hand high plank to start. Pax to furthest right begins by returning to high plank position and doing 5 Merkins and hold plank while next Pax performs the same on down the line until all holding high plank. All Pax then transition to hold right hand high plank and repeat process going back the other way.

    Mosey a little further to encounter cones in parking lot approx 50yds apart.

    Overachievers to go back and pick up 6 by helping complete final counts of burpees for fellow pax.

    With time left, mosey back to flag for Q to retrieve phone and then mosey to ball field bathroom breezeway to get out of rain.

    In honor of pending valentines day, to tune of ‘Cupid Shuffle’… begin holding high plank. When song calls “down” perform merkins, when song calls “to the left” shuffle to the left in plank position, “to the right” – to the right, “kick” alternating legs, “walk it by yourself” mtn climbers. Continue to conclusion of song.

      Line up PAX from Oldest to youngest (YHC – 53 to Lutefisk – 25)

      Cock Crows to welcome us – 5 Inchworms
      Hill (not Circle) of LIfe
      Three sets of cones spaced to divide up HoL into 1/3s. All Pax start at bottom. While remaining PAX perform a either Merkins, Hold Plank, or LBCs and next to Oldest (“on deck”) performs Mountain Climbers, Oldest begins by Bear crawl to first set of cones, Jail break to second set of cones and mosey to the top to find 80lb Sandbag. Oldest then carries 80lb sandbag all the way down the hill to remaining PAX and picks up the next oldest. Remaining PAX switch to different exercise and continue until next oldest returns. In meantime, Oldest carries 80lb back up to first set of cones while next oldest bear crawls. At first set of cones, both PAX (oldest and next oldest) jailbreak (but mostly just walk) carrying the 80lb sandbag together. to next set of cones. Then Oldest moseys to top while next oldest carries sandbag rest of the way to top alone. At top, Oldest performs curls with two 25lb dumbbells until next group returns. Process repeats until all PAX are up the Hill. After the initial 25lb dumbbell curls, PAX at top perform either, SSH, BB Sit-Ups or Shoulder Press, rotating with each new group. Due to time had to have two youngest come up together. Collect cones, meet in parking lot for 1-2min of alternating Plank and Side Planks. Time.

        This Q was similar to one I had done earlier at the Battery that highlighted “laying aside weight” i.e. sin. However, there are some weights we cannot lay aside. As men we can face many burdens…financial, work, family, etc.
        It’s harder carrying weight all alone. Even heavier weight carried with friends is easier. That time of year after holidays in the cold of winter where men can go into a hole under “weight”. Stay connected and don’t hesitate to reach out to a brother who may be able to help carry some weight for you. Reference Scripture Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

            Words of Wisdom – Persevere, Keep the Faith and Finish Strong. Considering the Q Line-up for BR this month being filled with lots of “Respect” made me think of the story of Caleb from the OT. One of only two of the 12 Spies who entered the promised land who believed in God’s promise to give them the land. Others were afraid because of the Giants in the land. As result God caused them to wander in the desert 40 years until all the unfaithful had passed. When came time to finally enter the land, Caleb asked for the toughest assignment – the high ground of Hebron. Didn’t say to send the young guys. Caleb “was still as strong for going out and waging war” at 85 when he was at 40 when he originally spied out the land. Reiterate the admonition to persevere, keep the faith and finish strong!

              7s as follows

              Round 1 – Manmakers with Pavers at bottom / Bernie up hill to large rocks/ Freeze Frame Mtn Climbers on Large Rocks / Mosey down until rep count flipped. Hold AG until 6 is in.

              Round 2 (Had to modify to 5s for time) – Paver Squats at bottom / Bear Crawl Up (Lots of weeping and gnashing of teeth when this was announced) / Incline Merkins at top / Mosey down. Hold AG until 6 in.

              Replace Pavers on pile and line up in parking lot for Snake Run (Indian Run weaving in and out) back to Domino’s Parking Lot.

              Circle up for 5 MOM

              Pointers/Bird Dogs – On hands and knees, raise opposite hand and leg straight out (like a hunting dog pointer) and hold 30 sec followed by reps of bringing elbow and knees together x 10 IC. Switch sides and do the same.

              It’s Christmas Time!! Take time to consider Emmanuel (God WITH Us). Humbled himself and came to the earth He created to live among us and demonstrate ultimate love.

              Due to F3 Brain, forgot to connect the leadership principle of “taking responsibility” in contrast to Adam . Adam made a mess and tried to run/hide from it (what BOYS do). Jesus came to clean up a mess he didn’t make (what MEN do)…but since I know everyone will read this back blast 😉 …there ya go!

              Prayers for Pro’s Mom and 10yo son of a friend of mine (Isaac) diagnosed with leukemia a year ago. Has battled for the past year going through chemo and thought they had it licked. Testing from spinal tap check up last Monday revealed he has relapsed and appears worse than original. Will now need to begin even more aggressive treatment including bone marrow transplant and even then 5 yr prognosis is bleak…they are telling him today. :((

                Shuttle Drill: (see link to youtube video – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5c_grMWWHI ) 2 sets of 3 cones in a line 5 yds apart. For each team, 1 PAX starts straddling middle cone while rest of pax hold plank in line. Upon Q call to start, PAX sprints to outside cone (5yds), touches ground, sprints to far opposite cone (10yds), touches ground, sprints through the far opposite cone (10yds), falls in line to hold plank with the rest of his team as next PAX jumps up from plank to do the same until through entire team. Teams race to finish first.

                3 Cone or L Drill: (see link to youtube video – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af2G4kCM4rg ) 2 sets of cones in L shape 5 yds apart. Just watch the video. Two teams hold plank again while taking turns and race against each other.

                Morphed in to Team Mayhem vs Team Deep Dish as primary QBs. Played until time approx 40 min. Team Mayhem dominated Team Deep Dish 28-0 thanks to outstanding receiving performances from Threeskin and Topless :))

                Picking up from my COT yesterday. Christmas time when we celebrate Emmanuel (God WITH us). In regards to leadership, Jesus (the second Adam) demonstrated ultimate responsibility in contrast to the first Adam. Take away – Boys make messes and shirk responsibility / run and hide. Men accept responsibility to clean up messes they didn’t even make. Also, being Rivalry Saturday, reiterated the great culture of F3 where instead of comparing and competing to tear each other down as men in order to defeat our rivals, we have a culture to lift and encourage each other to be better. Iron Sharpens Iron. Keep Coming out to be sharpened and to be Iron for your F3 brothers.

                  Getting up this early in the freezing cold to workout sucks! In the spirit of Invigorating Male Community Leadership, reminded PAX that in the service of their country/community, men are often called to do hard stuff. Brief Am History Lesson > December of 1776 at critical point of Revolution in fight for Country’s Freedom, Thomas Paine writes pamphlet ‘The Crisis’ and penned these words read to PAX: “These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell is not easlily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly…

                  In the days ahead, it would inspire General Washington and his troops to cross the Delaware on Christmas Eve in the freezing cold to essentially turn the tide of the war and help to win and establish the freedoms we enjoy today.

                  Takeaway, our decisions to either “shrink back from service” or push through to do hard things can have significant impact to both ourselves and our posterity.

                    HIM 2 (second heaviest) carries HIM 1 (heaviest) to 3rd light pole and back (approx 100yds out and back)

                    HIM 3 – Pickle Pointers / HIM 4 – Imperial Walkers / Him 5 – Merkins until HIM 2 returns from partner carry.

                    Rotate and repeat until all have cycled through each exercise.

                    Round 2

                    Select 4 new individual exercise from  “deck ”  Don Quixotes (Windmills), LBCs, Squats; Hold Plank

                    HIM 1 (heaviest) carries 80lb sandback 1 lap around Dog Park

                    HIM 2 –  DQs / HIM 3 -LBCs / Him 4 – Squats /HIM 5 – Hold Plank until HIM 1 completes lap with sandbag. 

                    Rotate and repeat until all have cycled through

                    Select 4 new individual exercise from  “deck ”  Quadraplex (alternating 5 reps each side), Freddie Mercurys, Lunges, Mountain Climbers

                    Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 

                    Just like the  beatdown…easier to mosey when not carrying “encumbrance”.  Challenged us to all identify what those “encumbrances” are that may be weighing us down and to lay them aside so we can run our races with endurance…because we have so great a cloud of witnesses (generations past and yet to come)

                    What I didn’t share were the following verses 2-4 which offer even more encouragement especially for those who are followers of Christ…

                    a]fixing our eyes on Jesus, the b]author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

                    For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary c]and lose heart.

                    My prayer for us all…Heavenly Father, thank you for F3 and the brotherhood we share to  push each other to be better men physically and spiritually.  Please show us where we may still be carrying certain “encumbrances” that hold us down and give us the courage and if necessary help to lay them aside so that we can freely run  with endurance the race You have set out for us.  In the name of Christ I pray…Amen

                    The Count entertained us sharing a run in with some over zealous MPs he encountered during his return to base following a business lunch where some amount of adult beverage was consumed.  I’m certain no amount of sarcasm was spared on the young lad.  Oh to have been a fly on the wall!! :))
