Mosey to Renaissance Park hill

The Thang

This was a team Challenge.

Jack v. Sisyphus

Two teams, Team Jack and Team Sisyphus.

Both teams at the bottom of hill. Two 55-gallon rain barrels at the top. Team Jack carried water up hill in various containers provided after drawing said water from local sources. Team Sisyphus carried 50+ rocks up hill. Team to fill up their rain barrel first to overflowing is the winner. Team Sisyphus filled their rain barrel first, and Team Jack emptied their rain barrel first.

Upon completion of challenge, PAX lunged to wood bridge, moseyed to riverfront, 12 merkins IC, lunged to Olgiati Bridge, moseyed to start for Mary of flutter kicks, pickle pounders, LBC’s, Freddie Mercuries & Big Boy Situps. Time.

COT

Work v. Toil. Parallel to Jack v. Sisyphus challenge — work rules are not always fair and work is often full of toil. However, we were created to work and work is good. Genesis 3:18: “…thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field.” Tim Keller in his book, Every Good Endeavor points out: “Thorns & food. Work will still bear some fruit, though it will always fall short of its promise. Work will be both frustrating and fulfilling, and sometimes — just often enough — human work gives us a glimpse of the beauty and genius that might have been the routine characteristic of all our work, and what, by the grace of God, it will be again in the new heavens and new earth…” J.R.R. Tolkien (famous for penning Lord of the Rings) also wrote a much shorter book called Leaf by Niggle which talks about a painter who wanted to paint trees but only paints a few leaves. After he dies his full work of art is revealed to him and others… Keller: “Our deepest aspirations in work will come to complete fruition in God’s future…people will…taste the fruit of the project you are working on right now.” We do not always see the fruit of our labors but we can be “ok” with the toil, be faithful, joyful, and content with our work and trust God for the fruit.

BOM – continued prayers for those said, led by Care Bear.

Moleskin

Some members of Team Jack felt the “thorns” of toil literally while locating water sources and received some badges of honor. Discussion of the correct form of holding Al Gore and whether it required hugging a tree or not and whether multitasking and inventing the internet counted or not. Everyone loves lunges. This was Skitch’s VQ.
