Informal warm up today. Did some stretching, did some repetitive movements. Just got warm a little. Then took a lap.


The Thang

First day back for me so we did some modification to the Wagon Wheel. Same basic concept, just imagine a wagon wheel with a hub, spokes, and the wheel. That’s basically it

With only 3 PAX, we stayed together. Complete the exercise on the paper and run to the hub, which is marked by the Golden Gloom Shovel. Perform 3 Burpees and run back to your station. Complete the prescribed exercise again. Run around the track to the next station.

Repeat until all 8 stations have been completed.

Once Complete, we took a couple of cool down laps to finish it off

    I shared in the past my thoughts on wisdom and how I believe that it is more of an action rather than something that goes on in your head.  Wisdom is the application of knowledge.   So, knowledge is a prerequisite to wisdom.  I’ve be thinking about commitment and believe that commitment is also a prerequisite to wisdom.  Commitment is a decision that you make ahead of time to do something specific in the future.  For example, we talk to our kids about sex so that when they are in the heat of the moment, the decision has already been made and they know what to do.  (I’m not ready to be a pa-paw). 

    I finished 2020 with 99 posts (plus a handful out of town in the Atlanta area).  As I think back, I probably would have attended only 5 or 6 if I had not already made the decision/commitment the prior day to wake up at 4:45am and roll away from my wife and warm bed.  Totally preaching to the choir, but just wanted to give a reminder to make important decisions (commitments) prior to game time and don’t wait until it is time to act.

      “A man found a cocoon of a butterfly.

      One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole.

      Until it suddenly stopped making any progress and looked like it was stuck.

      So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily, although it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.

      The man didn’t think anything of it and sat there waiting for the wings to enlarge to support the butterfly. But that didn’t happen. The butterfly spent the rest of its life unable to fly, crawling around with tiny wings and a swollen body.

      Despite the kind heart of the man, he didn’t understand that the restricting cocoon and the struggle needed by the butterfly to get itself through the small opening; were God’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings. To prepare itself for flying once it was out of the cocoon.

      Moral of the story:

      Our struggles in life develop our strengths. Without struggles, we never grow and never get stronger, so it’s important for us to tackle challenges on our own, and not be relying on help from others.”

      This story reminded me of my 6 year old son. He had a feeding tube for a couple years when he was younger so we always dressed him to avoid him pulling out the tube. He still asks for help with his clothes and we try our best to make him do it himself. I have a hunch this butterfly story will be relevant as our boys grow up and we fight to take the easy road of doing things for them.

        I discovered this morning that Prosciutto and I share a love of southern rock organ, specifically The Black Crowes. Projut has seen The Crowes live in Chattanooga. But where? The Crowes have played in Chattanooga three times since they made it big: Memorial Auditorium in 1992, Riverbend in 2008, and Track 29 in 2013. I am guessing you would have seen Prosciutto’s gold chain glistening in the stage lighting on the bank of the Tennessee River in 2008.

        Hambone may or may not have splashed merlot this morning. What was he doing around the side of the school building? The world may never know. The world should know that Hambone did a fantastic job on his first official day as Convoy’s Saturday AOQ.

        My cadence got a little fast toward the end of the pickle pointers. Hey it happens to a lot of guys!

            Partnered up in pairs for a DORA style workout

            100 Lunges (hard count)

            PAX 1 does 10 lunges while PAX 2 holds plank; switch until 100 have been reached in total

            200 Monkey Humpers

            PAX 1 does 20 monkey humpers while PAX 2 holds wall-sit/Al Gore; switch until 200 have been reached in total

            300 Squats

            PAX 1 does 30 squats while PAX 2 does SSH; switch until 300 have been reached in total

            In between each round (100 to 200, etc.), each PAX ran one lap around the parking lot area.

            Once pairs finished, we proceeded pyramid style and worked our way back through to 200 monkey humpers and 100 lunges using same rules as above.

            With 1:00 left in workout, all PAX stopped DORA exercises and performed Merkins AMRAP for the entire last minute.

            Shared with PAX that I am currently doing a Bible in One Year Plan for 2021. It starts with Genesis and Matthew and goes through the Old and New Testament. In reading Matthew 13, Jesus offers up the parable related to planting seeds in the hearts of others. He wants us to use our potential and gifts to plant seeds in as many others as possible during our lifetime. IMHO, this seed planting starts at home and only then can it ripple throughout communities. Sometimes planting a seed is hard. Whether it be with kids, spouses, peers or strangers. As a parent, I try to sow the seeds the right way in my kids. As a spouse, I try to sow seeds the right way in my wife. As a man of God, I try to sow seeds the right way in the paths of anyone else around me. But like in everything else, I inevitably come up short sometimes of what God is calling for.

            It is important to remember to keep sowing seeds during the good and difficult times of our lives. We must remember also that not every seed will bear fruit, but some will yield greatness. Once we have planted to seed, it allows Jesus to begin to affect the lives and hearts of those around us in a more profound way than we can imagine. Keep praying and keep planting those seeds. Jesus is always with us and the potential we have to share his good news among those around us is an incredible gifts.

            In closing, I asked PAX to remember this: A seed that is not planted has a 100% chance to die. Always plant seeds even when you don’t feel like planting them.

            After discussion, turns out many of us are likely qualified to be the next football coach at Tennessee. Resumes are being prepared.

            I only got one “this is stupid”. Was hoping for more. Coldplay missed his opportunity to help us meet this quota.

            “Leg” acy translates to “might not be able to walk later”. Again, Q lacks many levels of creativity skills but is able to produce dad jokes on the spot with no hesitation.

            Lastly, one PAX mentioned the squats were in such an abundance that he could likely crack an acorn open with his rear-end. This is not one of those activities where the saying “picture/video or it didn’t happen” comes into play

              Originally scheduled for 11 of those, but not “No”, uhh, “Hell No”; Omaha stop at 7 or 8 or wherever you were. The Pax were glad and invigorated at that point. Lots of back-patting occurred, cheers and ‘attaboys’ were given. For a moment, it was all that I needed to deliver the next level of pain.

              But first… two lengthy sprints. Added anticipation on the “On your Mark.. get Set”…”GGGGGGGGG”… Burrita was disqualified more than once from trying to get a head start.

I demonstrated how to properly space yourself with one padded space between you and the next pax member; in adherance to proper Covid-19 Nantan guideline and protocols described in his COT for the Mounties only a few weeks earlier. Were he not in quarantine jail and seen it himself, he would have been proud of the execution. This ain’t your Dad’s – Alannis Moresette definition of ‘Ironic’ – boys.

              MT 24: 1-14
              Jesus is teaching on the mount of olives (be still my heart) and the disciples are asking him when the end of the world will happen, what it’ll look like, what will signal His return and what will end the world.

              He says simply in verse 4 & 5, “don’t let anyone mislead you. For many will come in my name claiming ‘I am the Messiah’, they will deceive many”.

              Jesus goes further and talks of things to come and what to expect (natural disasters, warring nations and crippling famines). He calls them “birth pains” and warns them to expect worse.

              This was a timely message when I read it a couple weeks ago. And it hit hard as I went back and re-read this passage given how last week unfolded (riots, storming capital building in DC, etc.). Now, I can’t predict the future (surprise!), but I don’t think that last week is the only time we will see this kind of calamity. By all accounts, it was very bad. But know that it could have been worse. Remember… “birth pains”.

              And we may be asking, is this what the end looks like? What will signal that end? And it’s this curiosity that may cloud our own perspective. Especially when you’re on the lookout for the next thing. Fixated, even. In this state, we become susceptible to being deceived. Just as folks last week acted upon deceptions of fraudulent activity in politics and created an uprising putting people around them in danger. All for what? Who were they serving?

              In Jesus’ own words, we need to be focused on the root of our faith, and the hope and truth of what that offers. We need NOT look for ‘special signs’ but instead look at what we’ve been shown and taught all along. We need to love and respect our neighbor first. We need to look to our creator and follow His example. The rest will take care of itself.

                • Pendulum – Bent over in “Row” position with bricks in hands touching. swing bricks side to side trying to use shoulders.

                  Partner up. Run in opposite directions. Upon meeting partner complete 20 Merkins. Continue running. Upon meeting again. Complete 20 squats. Rinse and Repeat until 80 reps are completed and 2 miles together are completed.


                  COT

                  I assured anyone reading this; that, I am well aware this whole cube routine could appear to be a lazy way to plan a workout, but I assure you thought was put into it. The whole purpose of the cube portion of the workout was put there to lead into the COT.

                  The Pax, as long as they didn’t cheat, had zero idea what exercise would land on them. They did not know what kind of “bearer of bad news” they would have to be. They especially did not know, in the beginning, they would have to lead certain exercises in cadence.
                  Why this cube? The cube is random. It comes flying from an unknown direction with unknown consequences. The Pax had to adapt and lead.
                  Isn’t that a metaphor for life. Things come from all directions. We do not know what may arrive from that unknown direction, nor what will be asked of us.
                  We are left, then, with bowing up our chest, placing God’s armor upon us, and facing the unknown with courage. Our families, friends, brothers, and Nation needs us more than ever to do this.

                    Round 1:

                    Partner 1 begin murder bunnies toward fifty

                    Partner 2 Carry Block to Fifty and come back to where Partner 1 made it to and Swap

                    Partner 1 now Carries block to 50 and returns to where Partner 2 got to.

                    Wherever you guys are as a team, rifle carry block to fifty-yard line even if you have already passed it. Fifty Yard line is starting point for Round 2. In place you owe 10 Derkins, 10 Sousa’s, and 5 Blockees.

                    Round 2:

                    Beginning on Fifty yard line,

                    Partner 1 begin Lunges with Block (If you make it to goal line simply turn around and back toward fifty)

                    Partner 2 Rifle Carry Block (ruck or mosey) to other goal line, and come back to where Partner 1 made it to and Swap.

                    Partner 1 now rifle carries block to goal line and back to where Partner 2 Lunges to.  This time, wherever you are, both PAX murder bunny to Other goal line which is starting point for Round 3. In place you owe 10 Squat Thrusts, 15 Grave Diggers and 20 LBC’s easy count.

                    There Should be time left, so Rinse and Repeat going back toward original Beginning Goal  Line so Round 3 begins on opposite Goal Line and Round 4 would begin on Fifty again and so on so forth.  THE GOAL IS FOUR ROUNDS BUT MORE IF POSSIBLE.

                    In life its hard to walk it alone, it’s always good to have friends or a single friend even who you can find confidence in and trust. This workout today hopefully simulated the importance of doing something with another person doing it right there with you. The first F of F3 is fitness and while this is what brings us to the gloom, The 2nd F of Fellowship is what holds the workouts together and encourages more men to come out time and time again. Without the Fellowship, the Fitness is pointless almost. Find that man that is struggling and encourage him. Find that man who is doing well and encourage him to encourage others. This does not exist without High Impact Men like yourselves. Stay connected and Stay accountable!
