    Talked about completing the Chattanooga Marathon Relay this past weekend with Toe Tag, WuzntMe, and John Doe. Initially I had no desire to participate in this event, but I decided to push myself and commit to the team/event. It was a rewarding experience and I was thankful I changed by initial decision. Encouraged the PAX to step out and commit to doing something they may not have a desire to complete, but something they know will make them better. Sign up for a 5k, 10k, bike race, ANYTHING. Come join us for the 5k at 5a for a few weeks and see how much your fitness improves. Take that step and make a move.

    There was only 1 howl (if you can call it that) during the howling monkey routine. Most of the noise was grunting. Although no one channeled their inner mutant coyote, the timing of the routine was perfect having a young female running the circle around the flags witnessing this manly display. Only thing missing was 9Volt’s Flag/Eagle Crotch underwear.

      Run to the not a hill .

      Since this isn’t a hill, it should be easy to Bearcrawl Boilermaker to the not a top.

      Once reaching the end of the street, which is somehow taller and at a significantly higher elevation than the rest of the vast plains of Hacksaw, indian run around the church.

      Go back down to the bottom of the hill.
      Partner up. One person bernies to the top. Other person does 5 BBS, 10 flutters, 15 mercuries, and 20 LBCs. Sprints to catch his partner up hill. Loser does 10 burpees, winner does LBCs until burpees finished. Swap chaser/pursuer, and do it again.


      COT

      There is no hill. Whatever obstacle you have, the bigger deal you make it, the more likely you are to lose. Don’t focus on the size of the problem, just conquer it.

        BURPEE’s AND COUPONS
        6 Stations on one side of field w/Coupons, and 6 Stations directly across field at about 30 Yards (Burpee Stations). PAX pair up and line up across from each other. First Partner does 20 reps of exercise while partner does AMRAP Burpees. Flip Flop 3 times. Rotate to next station Rinse and Repeat. Station 1 – Squats – Station 2 – Overhead Press – Station 3 – Lunges – Station 4 – Curls – Station 5 – Tricep Extensions – Station 6 – Flutter Kicks w/ruck extended above. At the end of the exercises Burpee’s were counted up. In all 420 was best guess.

        The object was keep to keep count of the Burpee’s. The lesson is that leaders have to be diligent in keeping their eyes on the “Details” . In leadership those in charge must not allow distractions to obstruct the team from achieving the goal. As you throw different obstacles and distractions into the mix (adding a station, moving between station to station, etc.) Individuals lost counts along the way thus we had to rationally take a good educated guess. Just a simple example what happens when your not focused on the details.

            PAX all circled in P/L by flag (Domino’s), Used 30 lb Sandbag and passed from one PAX to another counter clockwise (increasingly speeding up), after 2nd pass, reverse clockwise. Next, SSH (I/C 20). Mosey toward Memorial Park, around path and under street near PD P/L and Pavilion.

            HIIT meets Merkin Mania
            Under Pavilion using picnic tables and P/L (about 35 yards)
            PAX pair up and split up. First PAX go to Pavilion and Second PAX to P/L. First PAX performs 7 Merkin Exercises (using proper form) as quickly as possible 10 Reps each. 1)Merkin – 2)Incline Merkin – 3)Decline Merkin – 4)Diamond Merkin – 5)Werkin – 6)Ranger Merkin – 7)Chuck Norris Merkin. Second PAX in P/L is doing Bernie Sanders approximately 35 yards and quick Mosey back to start (Rinse and Repeat 3 times). Flip Flop with First PAX and Rinse and Repeat. When both PAX have completed Merkins and Bernie all PAX meet in P/L circle up. Slow Squat (I/C 20 Reps), Alternating Lunges (I/C 20 Reps). That Completes round 1. Rinse and Repeat for round 2 (Only change, add 10 Burpees. Round 3 move faster and do 5 Reps / 2 Bernie’s and add 10 more Burpees.             Enjoyed a Good Pre F3 ruck of 5 miles with Clothes Pin and Mayhem. They were very happy to hear that I had planned an easy workout. I probably should have said it was easy to plan the workout. What a difference in the meaning changes just my moving a couple words… 🙂

                Pretty simple routine to help build the burpee count

                20 Minute exercise

                1st Minute = 1 burpee; 2nd Minute = 2 burpees; 3rd Minute = 3 burpees…..18th Minute = 18 burpees; 19th minute = 19 burpees; 20th minute = 20 burpees

                No rest in between minutes

                Once PAX hit a max – then the goal was to work their way back down the pyramid.

                Example: did all the way up the pyramid to the 15th Minute (15 Burpees for that minute); 16th minute did 15 burpees instead of 16, 17th minute did 14 burpees instead of 17, etc…

                Discussed the 3rd-F ministry and how it would be nice to see more HIMs involved. We have had 7-8 HIMs consistently raise their hands to serve on Tuesdays night, but it doesn’t expand much further than that. Need more support in that area. Touched on how I relaize some people don’t want to help because they feel these homeless did this to themselves through poor decisions, which may be true. However, there are people out there that are truly needing help and need a jumpstart to get back on their feet. Challenged the PAX to think about and focus on the ONE they can help verses the other 99. left the PAX with the following as they reflect on how they can support.

                Everyone mached the Burpee Pyramid when we first started, but there were a lot of quiet and cussing as we moved along. Escobar challenged the length of time it took the QIC to come up with this routine. As mentioned during the workout, it’s not always about length of time but how it makes you feel afterwards.

                Swipe Right bailed on us before the 6:15am mark. I think he was upset with me for forgetting to tag him the night before. Oh, and Speed Trap loves 90s workout music. It’s his favorite.

                Most notably there a group of women doing Yoga in the building next to us, whcih we could easily see through glass windows. If you’re looking for a reason to check out Hacksaw, well there it is. And as our lovely AOQ stated they were both “stunning and brave.”

                  Moseyed from Tractor Supply parking lot to Imagination Station playground.

                  Divided into groups at 4 stations.

                  Station 1: Pullups x 10

                  Station 2: Swerkins x 10

                  Station 3: Dips x 10

                  Station 4: Alternating Leg Bench Slow Step Down (10 each leg)

                  Completed 1 round before calling an audible (I remembered I wanted to do a round of core work before station work)

                  Core Work: Gas Pumps, Pickle Pointers, American Hammer, Toe Tag Special (side crunches). Performed each exercise for 45 seconds = 1 round.

                  Complaint from PAX member stated only his belly was still dry, so we performed a 20 count IC of Aquamans. Now having satisfied the PAX member’s request, we completed another round of the core work.

                  Back to the 4 stations. Encouraged PAX to perform 15-20 reps at each station. Completed another 2 rounds before calling time.

                  Moseyed to the Domino’s parking lot for more core work.

                  Core Work Part Deux: Heel Touches, Crunchy Frogs, 100s (45 seconds each = 1 round). Performed 2 rounds.

                  Took a 1 minute break in between rounds. Asked the PAX if anyone had a good joke or story to tell (we could have used Burrito in this moment, but he will never know that I had this thought since he doesn’t know how to find the backblast page). No one had anything to say, so Threeskin used the time to promote convergence at the Dame (Hot Dam, Giva Dam, Dam Bait, whatever you want to call the location).

                  One last mosey around the Domino’s parking lot left us with 1 minute to spare, so yes, another 1 minute AMRAP of buprees.

                  Roll With the Punches: My week started off with my wife contracting the flu (type A which is the worse) on Monday, so I used a PTO day on Tuesday and Wednesday to take care of our 2 year old daughter (24 hour coverage of a 2 year old is a lot of work, especially while taking care of a house and a sick wife who was mostly stuck laying in bed). And I forgot to mention, on our way home Monday evening, a deer ran into the road and decided to jump on the front of my car knocking out the entire headlamp assembly on the driver’s side. Wednesday came along, and now my daughter has the flu.

                  Never the week you ask for, but as it turns out, there was plenty of good that I was thankful for at the end. I was able to be the sole caretaker of my daughter for a 48 hour period. This is time that I would have normally been at work, while wishing I could be with my family. Also, since my wife had the flu, my daughter’s pediatrician gave her Tamiflu preventive treatment without a $130 office visit. Turns out, I had to order new headlamps for my car, which totaled $123 (my headlamps were old and foggy and needed replacing anyways).

                  So yes it was a rough week, but we made it through and are all healthy now. The money that would normally have been used to pay a doctor was used in return to purchase new lights that were needed already, and the best part, I was able to spend a lot of time with my family.

                  To summarize: take lemons and turn into lemonade.

It was sad. Threeskin said I needed to take medication (he knew exactly which one too. The man is a genius)

                    62 degrees, light rain, potential lightning but none actually seen, 30 second cloudburst but then rain stopped. Good morning for an old fashioned beatdown!

                    The Thang

                    After warmup, moseyed over to The Commons and grabbed some coupons to do some All About the Benjamins! 25 curls, 25 walking lunges, 25 squats, 25 walking lunges, 25 overhead press, 25 walking lunges, 25 mountain climbers, 25 walking lunges. Following that, moseyed over to the base of Holy Hill where, miraculously, cones were already in place all the way up the Hill! The Hill was painfully climbed by 10’s; 10 burpees followed by a bear crawl, 10 merkins followed by walking lunges, 10 squats followed by bernie up the steepest part, 10 Bonnie Blairs followed by a jog to the last cones. No relief at the top of the hill as that is where the Bataan Death March began. Basically an Indian Run with the last PAX doing 3 burpees and running to catch up to the group and shoulder tapping the last PAX who then stops for his burpees. The first PAX then then runs to the front of the line and the pain continues, all the way around the church parking lot. Enough room for everyone to have a turn. Moseyed back down Holy Hill and did half a cycle of Benjamins and then moseyed back to starting point for some Mary. Fun fun fun!

                    The Word of the day was from the lyrics of Tobymac in the song “Speak Life”. The words we use on ourselves and with others greatly matter. We have enormous power to encourage and uplift those around us with our words. Easy to do and when done with God’s guidance, very effective.
