“I’m different than most people…when I cross the finish line of a big race, I see that people are ecstatic, but I’m thinking about what I’m going to do tomorrow. It’s as if my journey is everlasting and there is no finish line.”

The first week of the month is always a good time to set goals for where you want to be at the end of the month. Make sure to set accountability for the things you need to do to reach your goals.  Change is uncomfortable.

Accountability is key for most guys.  Reach out if there’s an area of your life where you struggle to hold yourself accountable.  It’s not easy to commit to holding a brother accountable but we have to remember it’s not all about ourselves (a wise pax recently told me).

      Moleskin

Last couple weeks we’ve had to work around the city’s elite runners who’ve descended upon the Lions Den.  Ohms still works out with us, thankfully.

Midwife noises doesn’t make sense but it’s in the lexicon, so….

We did some redundant exercises today.  YHC didn’t check in with Boneyard or Hill City q’s.  Oops.

Mr. Clean recently shaved his bod.

        COT

Lots of F3 workouts don’t necessarily allow for PR. When given notice upfront about a certain task at hand with a defined criteria and end goal, F3 men should come prepared.

1 mile, plenty of notice. The 3rd Quarter often determines the outcome of competitions. The 3rd Quarter of a mile lap is the hardest. Freed To Lead says F3 is to support men in the 3rd Quarter of life. We’ll do it again in the fall, you’ve been warned!~

Ohms arrived sometime during the COP (way to be an awesome dad), after making sure his 2.0 was taken care of. We moseyed back to his truck for some coupons. Moseyed back to the bleachers for the following routine.

          No Elevator…Take the Stairs
Pax partnered up. One suitcase carried a coupon to the top while the other completed exercises in the Dora format.

          100 Merkins

          100 Inverted Rows

          100 Dips

100 Shoulder Press (Pax used coupon for Presses and explorer got a “break”)

          Tortoise and the Hare
Pax stayed with the same partner. One Pax completed an exercise while the other moseyed. In increments of 10, the Pax did the following…

          100 Squats

          100 Monkey Humpers

Shield Lock, iron sharpening iron, and/or accountability is a foundational principle of F3. YHC forgot that a bit over the few weeks after my second son was born…YHC was reminded, it hurt for minute, then it motivated me. Thanks Pax for supporting each other. Additionally, the challenge this week, as presented by Vila, “don’t be casual with the HC”

          Moleskin

Oddly enough, it was very low this morning…

I did hear a passing runner say…”you can just hold it for me”

The construction guys partnered up as did the former Gordon Lee guys

Most don’t know it but Dora has a long lost cousin named Sacajawea.  She is all about the running so she worked us pretty good.

Indian run in outside lane a full lap around the track.

            Dora Round 1

1 PAX does 25 squats to set the pace while Partner PAX knocks out as many block curls as possible.  Switch it up.  Repeat until total count of 200.

            Dora Round 3

Indian run in outside lane a full lap around the track.

We had a few minutes left and I hate Mary, she’s mean.  So we moseyed to the bleachers.

Bunny hop box jumps up the bleachers, walk back down.  We repeated this 8 times in spite of the groaning from the PAX.

Mosey to the flag where we enjoyed some SSH ICX10 just to make sure I utilized every second

              COT

I didn’t prepare a WOD today but my M sent me a podcast yesterday entitled “The Paradox if Progress”. While there were numerous salient points for me. Most applicable to me was his point about the priorities we have. We get so consumed with how we look, what we drive, where we live and other markers of status that we often forget why we have those things. We forget what’s important in life and what makes that all possible. Whether Christian or not, it’s important to realize that someone or something above ourselves aided us along the way. We work hard to make progress. We make progress to make us happy. We want happiness to enjoy our lives. The paradox comes when we’ve achieved all these things, we often forget how we got there and who helped us get there. So while we think we are making progress in life, we are actually regressing as people. I encourage everyone to sit back and appreciate how we got to where we are and give credit where credit is due.

                  COT

My 100 year old grandfather passed away yesterday.  He lived a long and full life so we’re not overly sad, but I couldn’t help but think about him as I planned for today.  I looked up famous people to live to 100 and stumbled across this on George Burns:

                  “George Burns
                  1896-1996
In his appropriately titled memoir How to Live to be 100, the beloved entertainer shared a fitness and nutrition plan that wasn’t exactly groundbreaking.  It consisted of a lot of stretches and walking, and a diet high in prunes.  But he didn’t consider any of this the “key” to a long life:
“If you ask what is the single most important key to longevity,” he wrote, “I would have to say it is avoiding worry, stress and tension.  And if you didn’t ask me, I’d still have to say it.””

                  Moleskin

YHC, Loan Shark, Prosciutto and Ducktales pre-rucked today’s workout and most of the chatter surrounded our fighting histories.  Loan Shark and I mostly listened.  Pro’s cousin, Frank Cafarella, developed a solid strategy when scrapping.  You gotta act a little crazy.  Say crazy stuff.  Crazy eyes.  Make them think twice, you know?

Our man Picasso has been stretched thin these days and needed a sub on q today.  So you all have him to thank for 15 minutes of mary.
